Product distribution to the trade is being carried out by a new fleet of DAF CF65 chassis’ fitted with Wheelbase Engineering GRP box van bodies equipped with internal load restraint tie rails and removable second deck loading bars, plus 1500kg capacity cantilever tail lifts which act as the rear closure and work in conjunction with a top hinged flap.  Previously all transport requirements had been contracted in, but in keeping with the companies profile and position in the market place Godfrey Syrett took the decision to run their own fleet of purpose built equipment.
The other Godfrey Syrett requirement was for a shuttle operation to run between their two facilities which are 30 miles apart and for this the ideal solution was a Wheelbase Engineering demountable system based on a DAF LF55 14000kg GVW chassis and demountable bodies of a similar specification to those on the CF65 chassis’.  The only significant difference being the deletion of the tail lift and introduction of flush fit rear doors, due to the shuttle being a dock to dock operation.

By utilising a Wheelbase Engineering demountable system one vehicle can now carry out all of the daily inter-company movements required as the bodies are loaded and unloaded whilst the truck is in transit, thereby reducing standing time to the absolute minimum and achieving maximum vehicle utilisation.

The demountable system utilises the rear axle air suspension of the chassis and an air lift pack situated behind the cab as the lifting mediums and four twistlocks for body retention, which provides for a quick and simple operation carried out by one person.
