Chassis modifications
What is chassis re-engineering and why is necessary?
Chassis re-engineering is the modification of standard product produced in volume by any truck manufacturer to meet specific operational requirements and is normally due to one of two reasons.
Truck manufacturers produce chassis’ to a vast array of different specifications which in the main are configured to meet the requirements of the mass market, therefore when a bespoke specification is appropriate to the application it becomes necessary to re-engineer a standard vehicle to suit, as it would uneconomic for the chassis manufacturer to build it on the production line.
The second reason usually involves the modification of a standard ‘stock’ specification chassis to a different standard. Not all chassis’ are made to order and as a result truck manufacturers and dealers often have to decide well in advance what vehicles to ‘stock’, but invariably on occasion the actual orders they receive vary from what is available, hence the need to re-engineer product.
