Existing operators of demountable equipment rarely have reason to look elsewhere for a new supplier, however over the years a number of well known systems have fallen by the wayside leaving operators with significant supply problems. Wheelbase Engineering has over the years produced demountable equipment in its own right, this led them to acquire the intellectual property rights for the RSG range of products in 2008, which includes the engineering data base. More recently in 2011 Wheelbase Engineering purchased Abel Demountable Systems to further enhance its product portfolio and give it another operating centre capable of servicing its customer base.
Abel Systems
Abel Systems are well known for their range of 'Straight Lift' demountable systems, drawbar trailers and bodybuilding capabilities, all of which has secured them an enviable position in the market place. Operating from their site in Chesterfield they are able to handle most customer requirements, however since their acquisition by Wheelbase Engineering, they have further increased their capabilities by carrying out chassis modification work that was not previously possible.
RSG - Ray Smith Group
The RSG range of demountable equipment was the market leader in its time, therefore the acquisition of the intellectual property rights to those designs has ensured that Wheelbase Engineering can continue to provide fully compatible equipment into the market place. This gives the operators of those systems piece of mind in the knowledge that there will be a seamless change and that they will receive equipment manufactured to the same high standards encompassing all of the finer detail.
Compatibility
The most important thing to any operator of demountable equipment is compatibility, as without it the whole basis of their transport solution is compromised. All to often what appears to the uninitiated to be a relatively simple engineering exercise can be fraught with unforeseen complications, which if not identified by the supplier results in operational compromises that will last the lifetime of the equipment and possibly beyond. Between them Wheelbase Engineering and Abel Systems now have access to more demountable system records and drawings than any other manufacturing company and have provided compatible equipment to work with every known UK manufacturer, both past and present.
